The mission of Universal Knowledge Institute (UKI) is to advance knowledge and understanding of the Quran and its historical context for Muslims and others, increase public understanding and awareness of Islam and Muslims, and advance world harmony through sensitivity toward Islam and Muslims. Universal Knowledge Institute was created in 2007 by a small group of concerned individuals for educational purposes as a nonprofit 501C3 organization based in the State of Illinois. We are convinced that knowledge is a powerful element that can promote understanding of Quran, sensitivity toward Islam and Muslims, improve public awareness and increase harmony in the world.

A New Interpretation And Translation

gracious_slideshow_01This contemporary, authoritative translation interprets the Quran’s meaning for the English reader with unprecedented access to the Book that is the foundational source of Islam, its civilization and its peoples, who now comprise nearly one-fourth of humanity across the breadth of all the Earth’s continents and who form a crucial, contiguous community at the middle of the world.

Twenty years in the making, The Gracious Quran: A Modern-Phrased Interpretation of Its Meanings in English is both highly reliable and powerfully expressed. Where the Arabic of the Quran swells with important implication, that intent is conveyed in this rendering with a light hand in unobtrusive brackets, every effort having been expended to make its reading august, clear, accessible, and consistent while at the same time free of poetic pretension, philosophical complication, and lifeless literalisms.

THE GRACIOUS QUR’AN: A MODERN-PHRASED INTERPRETATION IN ENGLISH
Review by: Abdur Raheem Kidwai (Aligarh Muslim University)

It is heartening to note the publication of this new English translation of the Qur’an in that it stands out above the existing ones on several counts. Its chief merit consists in its deep and sincere concern for meeting almost all the needs of the uninitiated English speaking readers of the Qur’an who want to find out what the Qur’an is, what is its message and how best it should be studied.

EVERYDAY THOUGHTS on Quran, Islam and Muslims shared by a western Muslim mother, grandmother and educator, in a time when much of the world is in turmoil.

Goal #3:

Read Quran as a primary source on social, and cultural history of Islam as well as the political aspects in the history of Islam

In the bright sunshine of this summer day in Chicago as I continue the discussion on my reading of Quran, in today’s blog I’ll cover the third goal of my learning agenda. That is, I must read Quran as a primary source on social, and cultural history of Islam as well as political aspects of the history of Islam. This is especially important given the turmoil that we live in with Islam frequently in the headlines. There are so many unsolicited interpretations.

Goal #2:
Look to the Quran for answers to Life’s Daily Challenges and Advice to Shape My Interactions

Today’s blog is a chance to share the second of the three things in my learning agenda for the study of the Quran. I must look to the Quran for answers to life’s daily challenges and use the advice and guidance of Quran to shape my life, and my interactions with everyone I meet.

The Quran is a powerhouse for the conscious Muslim who is living according to the teachings of Islam. To name a few areas of guidance, it provides me with how to act, how to live life, how to attain the qualities in my personality that please Allah (S), and how to gain a deeper understanding of the purpose of this life.

Recognize the Centrality the Quran Must play in Muslim life

There are three things I have consistently implemented in recent years as I tried to make the meaning of the Quran reach a level of heartwarming love that would motivate my inner spirituality and bring me to a deeper understanding of Islam and the Quran. These three things have helped me reach far beyond my love of Islam and Quran.

Quran in Our Time

A Blog about The Book of Guidance

A book of guidance, The Quran is something as a Muslim I always knew that I needed to read daily. Well, that reading could either be because I had to or because I loved to. Essentially, for me it would not suffice that I was reading (actually reciting) surah after surah in Arabic during my five daily prayers and not really able to understand what I was saying. Of course I had several English translations of the Quran and I read from them. I did not benefit perhaps as much from the British English as those might who live in surroundings where British English is the language of the land.

My not getting into the meaning and enjoying my reading as much as I wanted to all began to end when The Gracious Quran, a new modern phrased English interpretation and translation, by Dr. Ahmad Zaki Hammad reached completion. It is contemporary and authoritative. I was suddenly reading and making connections to my world, today’s world, the world created by Allah for humanity to inhabit. Now, I could read and understand the book of guidance. I was no longer just reading to understand a few Arabic surahs that I would use in my five daily prayers. Now, I was reading because that book of guidance, the words of Allah were suddenly for me. The Gracious Quran, is in modern phrased language, the English I use in the world I live in, precisely where I need to apply this book of guidance, The Quran.
